Food and Menus

“The feast is the very heart of any celebration!”

We are hugely proud of our food at Martinstown House. All food is prepared from scratch using only the finest ingredients, with an emphasis on local, organically grown produce. We grow much of our own herbs and salads in our Walled Garden, and we purchase as much as possible from local suppliers like Ballyfair Farm who provides our strawberries and honey, Margaret who supplies our excellent organic chickens, and Nolan’s of Kilcullen, where we buy their award-winning sausages and meat.

Your drinks reception, main meal, and late night food are the key times to feed yourselves and your guests. Luckily, we offer loads of options in all three categories to keep you and your guests satiated and happy! Each of our dinner menus include a glass of prosecco or Pimms for everyone to enjoy during your reception.

Our head chef Andrew trained in the legendary Ballymaloe, as well as at Rick Stein’s in Padstow and in Goa, India. Catering for any number of people and any dietary restrictions, he is available to discuss your menu with you at any stage.

Your Reception

Your drinks reception will be one of the most photographed times of your wedding day.

Whether you have your ceremony on-site, in the registry office, or in your parish church, we will be ready to receive you and your guests enthusiastically with open arms.

You and your partner will step out as newlyweds for the first time to greet all of your friends and family, and you will get to spend this time hugging, chatting and posing with your favourite people. Glasses of sparkling prosecco or refreshing Pimms, wheelbarrows filled with ice and bottles of beer, trays of moreish canapés, or tables covered in a smorgasbord of antipasti nibbles, delicious scones and cookies, great pots of tea and coffee are all options to complete your reception.

In 2023 we built our front lawn bar that we fondly call The Sipping Container. It’s a full bar built into an old shipping container, and extended with reclaimed barn arches and a stretch tent. The stretch tent connects to bog oak logs, some of which are nearly 6,000 years old. The firepit and Balinese parasols in upcycled spools add an extra bit of energy and charm. It’s such a special spot that you can hardly believe you’re in Kildare.

DINNER MENUS

We offer three sumptuous dinner menus: The Gala, Traditional Fare, and the Rustic Feast:

The Gala Menu

Our Gala Menu is a stunning and inventive celebration of the best of Irish food. Carefully presented and beautifully garnished, every course is an incredible journey of flavour. We take full advantage of our gardens with edible flowers, fresh herbs and much of our own organic vegetables. A choice of five delicious courses, based in the best of Irish modern cooking and ingredients.

Traditional Fare

The Martinstown House traditional 4-course wedding fare is complete experience with starter, soup, main course, and trio of homemade desserts with tea and coffee. Our chef has tailored a beautiful menu of classic country house options with a modern flare.

The Rustic Feast Menu

Many of our couples are looking for a laid-back celebration while still keeping delicious food a top priority. This menu ticks ALL the boxes! We begin the meal with a served starter for everyone, followed by a staff-served buffet of beautifully tender and richly flavoured spit roasted meats, colourful fragrant salads, and hot, flowery spuds. All followed by our incredible homemade trio of desserts served to each guest at the table to truly indulge.

Late Night Food

We’ve seen a few weddings last all night, and sometimes a warm plate of comfort food at the right time can make all the difference! We offer a selection of tasty favourites like sausages and Tayto sandwiches, or something more warming and substantial like pulled pork sandwiches or our 5-cheese mac n cheese . Feeling the need to really indulge? Try our stunning late night burger bar, with a dizzying array of toppings, condiments and fresh, crispy chips!
